He really sucks.. Especially in this film..

He plays a good Italian...however i've never met an Italian so I don't know?

no.. he plays a good wannabe corny, cheesy, and very boring italien.

i'm shaking all over just because he's shamefully bad.

As much as I like Cage, I still hold my opinion that his accent really sucks in this one..

Nicholas Cage is a mediocre actor to begin with -- and his accent sucked big time.
In fact he doesn't manifest the true charisma of a Mediterranean man. Not even close.
He's just a mediocre phony American actor.

Spot on! How many more films will Hollywood allow this man to ruin? In my opinion, he is the worse actor in America. Captain Corelli's Mandolin cries out to be shot in Europe. The Yanks don't have a clue how to make a film out of a book such as this. Once they did but no longer. OK, Cage wasn't bad in Con Air, but that's the only film I can think of. John Hurt-terrific, Penelope Cruz-luminous but various factors made this movie a disappointment, the biggest culprit being Cage!

nick cage only has 2 expressions and there both *beep* his accent is the worst in movie history.

if it wernt for john hurt and bail i would have spewd this movie in favour of deal or no deal.

Nic Cage was supposed to be a free spirited Italian solider. So the whole over the top accent and mannerisms sort of worked.

Nick Cage is 1/2 Italian/American. His uncle is Francis Ford Copolla - but he was still miscast. Hurt, Bale, Cruz & Morrissey were great IMO

At the time of filming, I read from somewhere that while he is of Italian descent, he doesn't speak the language. His obviously fake Italian accent in the film was atrocious and laughable. It is as if a tourist goes to some foreign country and is mocking at the way the people speak. If I were Italian, I would feel very much offended.
