ok so there are so many threads going on the film was terrible or it wasn't as good...but let's pretend the book isn't there....let's pretend this is just a film we have gone to watch because we liked the idea of the film, liked the actors...hell even liked the genre.

so i do ask people not to bash the film so much on this thread because you have so many to threads to put negative comments on i want to keep this positive....(not that i can control you but it would be nice)

i loved the film. i saw it for only the first time last night and i was really captivated by the film...normally i don't watch war films (even if they are more romance then anything) but because Mr Cage was in it i gave it a shot...

and i wasn't disappointed. he was as wonderful as ever..yes his accent did make me laugh (in the beginning where he reads out *beep* off'...just the way he says it) but as the film progressed i thought yeah it's ok.... and then the film turned nasty i spent much of the later part of the film (especially the excution) saying no no....stop don't do that...you can't kill him......he's corelli...he's nic cage....

god my heart nearly stopped when they opened fire on him...so many films have killed off romantic leads suddenly and bam no happy ending..... thank god he was alright..... oh and i loved his singing....her (Mz cruz) i'm not a big fan of... but she was alright for what she was..and Mr Bale was also breath taking in his role....

i really liked the film! i have read the book and i did really love the book but didn't like the ending (i prefered the movie ending lol) i have to buy this movie!!

i just curse the sun so i can howl at the moon-QOTSA

lol i agree with everything you say gr_r_reat-1, about Nic Cage, the film, and especially Christian Bale, whom I have fallen in love with. ^_^ The film is beautiful, they filmed on location which was really great, and the acting is fantastic! I haven't even bothered to read the hate posts, cos I love this film.

I LOVE THIS FILM, I CANT BELIEVE I DIDNT WATCH IT AGES AGO!

I would like to say that the film is BASED ON the book, it is not a literal translation. It was never going to be the same as the book!

I loved this film so much, I have to say there has never been a movie that made me cry so much as this, which has to say something for the strength of the acting because I hardly EVER cry at movies. Nic sort of drew me in....... i think its the eyes. I liked his accent, although I think I prefer his real voice. Moving away from Nic though, every other part in this movie was well acted and well cast. I really dont see why everybody hates it so much!! Its so lovely!

This movie deserved so much more credit than it got! I LOVE CAPTAIN CORELLI!!!!!!

I'M TELLING YOU THE DEVIL GYPPED ME FOR A HAMBURGER!

Very good film one day i might read the book but think about them as to things.

I liked it is the 1st film I have seen with Nickolas Cage in which he was good
Its just different films bring out different sides

I really liked this film as well, i think the song by Russell Watson helped as i fell in love with that and then seeked out film. I will need to read the book now. But overall i watched this from a neutral point of view with no expectations and found it enjoyable. Not amazing just good.

This was one of those movies where I've already decided I'm going to buy the soundtrack about 30 minutes in. I'd give the plot/script about 4/10, but with the Greek setting (one of my favourite countries) and excellent soundtrack it gets 7/10 in my book. This has to be one of the best soundtracks ever.

Oh, and Pepe Cruz 'getting them out' lifts it to 8/10.

Yeah seriously about those hate threads: what are they talking about? I personally think this movie's better than that hyped-up english patient. I mean, this movie made more sense and was a lot sweeter than that half-baked crispy-fried-gingerbread-man-relating-his-story drama. So lame. No romance. And I think Nicholas Cage's character was charming, the opera (I loved the singing, I sing in college all the time), the "Bella Bambina at Twelve o' Clock!", the *beep* off!". And the girl's dad, the doctor. he's so peppery.

I've watched the movie earlier part of this year and I like and appreciated the film very much. So when I went into this board just to see other people's reaction, I was baffled why so many dislike and even hated the movie. I suppose us, who like the film, and don't compare it with the book is in the minority in this board. I've written posts in some of the negatively biased threads, not defending the movie, but simply stating why I like the film version.

So, I understood what the characters were saying and their delivery of exceptional clarity, wasn't bothered at all about the accents; admired then, and until now, the performances, N.Cage just right as Captain Corelli and P.Cruz's angular features distinctly memorable and Greek-like despite being a Spaniard, John Hurt unforgettable as Dr. Iannis, frank and at the same time tenderly affectionate father to Pelagia and I was grateful the film didn't kill him in the earthquake, C. Bale's portrayal of Mandras superbly done; the music from the mandolin hauntingly sweet and the excerpts from operas was entertaining - even if boisterously rendered most of the times; plus the wonderful cinematography of the island: the verdant hillsides-the quaint houses-the old buildings-the exceptionally beautiful seascape; the destruction, the tragedies that war always brings not only in material terms but also to the lives of people done with restraint.

Sure, there are flaws, but I believe the positive points in this film far outweighs whatever flaws there are, so much more to appreciate and and so many beautiful parts to reflect on.

I like the film too, I've never read the book so I have nothing to compare it too. This film is underated IMO.

I have watched this film again for the sixth or seventh - I'm not really sure just how many now -time last night. As far as I'm concerned, this movie gets even more beautiful after each viewing. Last time I watched it was before I posted in your thread last July. Glad that the most recent poster below my last post enjoyed the movie too.

Although I can understand why there are so many critical threads in this board - the book really being a brilliant masterpiece by de Bernieres - I wish they can just open themselves up to what is beautiful about this movie, which actually are aplenty.

I haven't seen the film yet, but the book was fantastic. I'll watch it eventually but from what I've heard I'll probably be disappointed.
