Missing chapters on region 2 DVD

I bought this film from Amazon a while back and found two chapters were missing. I sent the film back, and recently bought it again, only to discover the same flaw a second time. The two missing chapters can been seen in scene selection, but cannot be reached, even by this means. I'll be sending this DVD back as well and trying to find another version of the film (which I like)

Has any one else noted this problem though, or am I just very unlucky?

Never had that problem. That's strange. Best of luck.

I have had the same problem. The R2 DVD version of the film appears to be missing two important scenes starting at about 55 minutes into the film.

The first is when the army lieutenant arrives in town, shoots a wolf and insists that the taxidermist create a fake beast; and the second is when the fake is sent to Versailles to be unveiled before the king. The strange thing is that the missing scenes do appear in minature in the DVD "chapters" menu.

The DVD I purchased has ID codes:

DVD11573 US-9027489AR0/L1 03
DVD11572 US-9027489AR0/L1 01

The store I purchased the disc from insists that the film is complete and the the DVD is fine. They suggested that I should raise this issue with the films distributer Universal first, and then with StudioCanal.

reply

Sounds like the same problem alright. I shall have to contact Universal then. What a pain in the eema!

reply

Hmm. I watched the film last night and neither of those scenes appeared in the film. I didn't check the scene index and the film didn't seem incomplete without those scenes in. Weird...

but it is important for the film it show how bother they are about it and that they want to get away with the problem even if they have to fake the death of the beast
come and have a go if you think youre hard enough

I have to second this info, a friend is a film buff, and he has the international/region 1 version and it has the added scenes, I have the UK version and they are NOT in the film.

its the difference between the versions, not a disk error.

Oddly, the UK HD DVD Director's Cut(which I own) is complete.

I showed it to a friend of mine last night, expecting he would like it like I did. His serious response was "Well, I didn't HATE it."

I almost kicked him out after he said that. ;)

I have the 2 disc dvd and it has missing scenes. I think it was a HMV exclusive.

I bought this after seeing my brother's dvd, which was a single dvd and had those scenes in.

I have the German version (2 discs, including the director's cut) and it is complete. Both mentioned scenes are there.

You have the European version of this excellent film. The Canadian version has the missing chapters and the film makes complete sense. See:

I have the UK DVD, double-disc HMV-exclusive and those scenes are missing! Not only that but the shot of Monica morphing into a witch while about to stab Samuel Le Bihan's character is not in the film at all, but can be seen in the scene selection and the making-of-documentary. What a rip-off! It's not the complete film!

reply

OMG, is THAT why I thought that the DVD release was different and didn't make any sense. I liked that there were more scenes, but I just assumed that they had added them IN PLACE of the scenes that were missing. When I show people my version of the DVD they hate the movie, and I can't blame them. I'll have to check my scene selection, and perhaps buy a non Region 2 copy.

God, that is so good to know, but I wonder why it's such a strange bug?
