DVD vs Cinema

This has been one of my favourite films for a very, very long time after seeing it in the cinema. Imagine to my disappointment when I bought my copy on DVD only to discover that they'd added love scenes, but taken out all the explanations of the conspiracies, and the taxidermy of the wolf, Fronsac's journey to france, the sharing of the red book, and replaced it with some insipid love scenes!

I have been able to find no information on the rationale of this, and there is no way to find out whether a copy of the DVD is the original cinematic version, or the crappy love version that, quite frankly, makes the plot make little to no sense as they've cut out all the explanations.

If anyone can point me to information on why this was done, or point me in the direction of an original copy of the film I'd be much obliged.

Wow, that almost sounds like a bootleg version.

I have the 3-disk collectors edition (Canadian version) and it has all those scenes you said were missing.

it sounds like you have the British theatrical cut. Try and get this version:
