One of the best gay characters in a film

Gandolfini's Winston is probably one of the best gay characters I've ever seen in a film, simply because he's not a Hollywood stereotype - camp, effeminate and style-obsessed.
The film isn't one of the best made, but that doesn't matter in this context.

I totally agree that Gandolfini kicked some serious ass in this film. He was great.

reply

I don't care for either one of the leading casts on the poster. I rented the show only for one guy, Gandolfini.

I hope that doesn't sound gay.

TRUE ! Like in every movie he did ;-)

If you like gay performances, see Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Val does another amazing job.

A critic is a legless man who teaches running.

reply

yeah val kilmer is pretty awesome in that movie which is such a better film then this

reply

Val Kilmer in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is one of the top five funniest performances of all time.

...I think the decision to make him gay was just to be cute.

Kind of a throwback to the mid 90's when there was a flood of ensemble-driven "Tarantino-esque" films filled with "quirky" characters. This was especially true of the villainous characters.

reply

I actually think the decision to make Winston gay was to make him seem gentle and unthreatening (by hitman standards), so that Anna (and the audience) are shocked to discover that he's working for the bad guy and planning to kill her & Jerry.

reply

When Philly Leotardo found out that Tony was.... well, something about "found with a pool cue in his butt", I'm not sure, just what I heard. Fuggedaboutit!

reply

Ha ha!
I feel even luckier and happier now.
My boyfriend resembles James Gandolfini, both physically AND personality-wise in this movie.
I am blessed. Yay me!

I just hate that he was taken out by some prancing-ass prison bitch-type boy like Brad Pitt.

reply

Whilst James is both the better actor and comes across the nicer guy, I'm still shallow enough to say I'd rather have Brad as a boyfriend!?! :p

So would the majority of every other gay man out there.

Personally, YUCK.

yeah, but James Gandolfini's character (Winston) was trying to kill Brad Pitt's character first, remember? Besides, Winston was pretending to be someone else, and Brad Pitt found out, so Brad Pitt shot Winston, remember?
