Why doesn't DJ make 'em like this anymore?

His first film (this) was WOW, and all films that have followed have traced a quick decline into MOM (yeah, that's "wow" upside down).

DJ, please sugar-pop, find your way back to some Salty goodness, huh?

reply

Ok, i'll try to forget about the whole WOW, MOM thing...

Although it's true, he did great with this movie, but most of the work was done heavily by Kilmer and also by the story itself, so probably the screenplay really was good, and the cinematographic work is excellent, even so D.J. Caruso is a "better than average" director, so his latter movies haven't been THAT bad.

So his latter movies haven't been that bad.

Ummm yes they have.

I've never seen Salton Sea, so I can't compare it with what hes making now.

But, I have always heard people say Salton Sea isn't a bad movie and that it is quite good actually.

Now, I have however seen all the rest of his movies and I have to say I was never impressed, so much so that I don't even think I will bother with The Salton Sea either.

Disturbia according to IMDB has recieved a 7.0 rating, the movie was cheesy, and I didn't like it. I did however enjoy Shia Lebouf's performance and I think he's the only thing that kept the film from becoming a complete failure.

Now I've seen Eeagle Eye and I'm thinking whats DJ Caruso trying to be, Michael Bay or something. I just don't find he's any good at telling a story. Neither is Michael Bay, but at least Bay doesn't try to wow an audience with his storytelling ability, he knows what his strengths and weakneses are.

I just find that DJ Caruso seems to act like he can make blockbuster hits when he can't.

He may be a good director but lately he's been using cheap tricks, making movies that are nonsensical (Eagle Eye was totally nonsense, just stupid concept and very unrealistic I could not even stretch my imagination for that one) and boring. Ha, its funny I say boring when he makes expensive action thrillers.

I'm in my 20's and I think I must be too old or something to enjoy what D.J Caruso makes.

I think DJ Caruso is a hacker of a movie maker. sorry to all the fans but I've seen way better movies then what he makes.

You should really give Salton Sea a shot. It really stands out from the rest of his movies. Doesn't even seem like it's made by the same director.

Osbourne Cox? I thought you might be worried... about the security... of your shi+.

Salton Sea was a fluke for Caruso. He built up so much good will with me from this movie alone that I sat through Taking Lives and Disturbia hoping for the same kind of result. No dice. He did some good episodes of The Shield, but nothing better or worse than the rest of the show. Any magic or skill on display in The Salton Sea has dried up.

"I always liked Val Kilmer's earlier roles, maybe its the weight he had put on lately, I don't know."

If that is your main reason for not watching one of his films I can't say I think much of your values. One needs to remember that actors, unlike the films they star in, are not ageless.
