They stopped to get directions. The lights were on in the house and so they knocked on the door to ask how they could get home. They weren't buying drugs. In one scene you see one of the dealers giving Val instructions, right before he goes to the bathroom.
shareThis didn't make sense to me. How many people would stop at a stranger's house to ask for directions and how many people would invite a stranger into their home and allow them to use their bathroom? Perhaps it is because I've lived for several years in a dodgy neighborhood but I just can't picture that happening in real life.
shareI think there are plenty of people that would do both.
I can understand not doing so in a sketchy place though. And I can certainly understand not doing so if one lives in a sketchy spot.
I don't think I would want to stop in the Salton Sea area for directions, as it is supposedly a pretty sketchy spot. I doubt Tom and his wife knew that in the film. When they are in the house you can see all the cold pills, but that probably didn't register to them. I don't think they realized they were in a dealer's house.

As far as plot holes go, that's pretty tiny. I think it's a great movie.
shareThey answered a craigslist ad. They were buying Hooked on Phonics for you!
The validity of my answers is highly dependent on the intelligence of the question..or lack thereof.

Yes, but often times kids don't pay attention as they should. It is usually the parents' fault rather than the school's.
shareThey were there to find out why IMDb are shutting down the message boards. Free speech is dead in this world.
