My thoughts on this film

I just finished watching this film for the first time and here's my thoughts on it. I watched the region 4 release and the subtitles were terrible. So apologise if I'm off on a couple of things. I'll also try and keep this very short.

After his wife died Aoyama became a bit of a chauvinist pig. He was having a sexual relationship with his secretary. She actually loved him but he didn't care in the slightest. She was unsure but hoped that he loved her too. So tested him with the "I'm getting married" his replied showed how much he cared about her. Which was nothing. He was using her for sex.

He then held an audition to find a beautiful young girl. After reading all their profiles and pictures. He picked out the most beautiful and vulnerable, desperate girl he could find. As she would be more likely willing to do things to secure a film role.

After he took her out on dates. He didn't really pay attention to the things she was telling him about her life. He didn't care in the slightest. He was only interested in one thing, that being sex.

His friend kept telling him that there's something wrong with her and this stuck in the back of his mind. Why would a beautiful young girl be interested in him?

After he slept with her. He felt guilty about using her. This leads to the metaphor with the torture scene. He's been using women for sex. The first thing he thought when he saw his sons girlfriend was oral sex involving her. He thought this is what he deservers for what he's done and how he thinks about women.

Also, I think he was wondering why this beautiful young girl would want to have a relationship with him. As she told him that the film role didn't matter and she was just glad to have met him (he's not sure if she was lying or not). His friend was putting doubts in his mind. He thought there must be something wrong with her.

He was trying to think back to when he took her out on dates. As he didn't care or really listen to what she was saying about her life (he just wanted to have sex with her). He was trying to remember what she had said. He filled in the gaps and came up with the sexual abuse.

I've already gone on long enough so in short.

It was a combination of his guilt (using women for sex) and also he was unsure weather she genuinely loved him or not. If she was just having sex with him to get the film role, which meant he was using her. Or if she did love him. Then there must have been something wrong with her. The combination of the two manifested it's self into his psyche
