We're getting a remake...

http://www.deadline.com/2014/06/audition-remake-mario-kassar-murakami- miike/

And of course, they're touting it as "We're going back to the original novel." Just like Matt Reeves went back to the original novel for Let Me In and like how Spike Lee based his Oldboy remake off of the manga, right?

reply

Aw man, I was already in the process of writing a screenplay to possibly submit for one so a die-hard fan of the original could know what he was doing! I hope that this is the cast they get for it:
Aoyama: Gary Oldman
Asami: Summer Glau (I practically am almost begging them to cast her, she'd be perfect!)
Yoshikawa: Willem Dafoe
Shigehiko: Ezra Miller

America should not touch this movie!

I just made a comment about how Spike Lee wrecked Oldboy on the Audition (2014) board. No doubt Hollywood will ruin this story with their over-the-top attempt as they usually do.

reply

That sucks.

Why can't you be a non-conformist like everyone else?

reply

What a shame! People should be encouraged to partake in more foreign films rather than remakes.

This is hands down the most horrific movie I've ever watched and I LOVE it! Unfortunately I cannot see a remake doing it any sort of justice.

reply

For some reason I don't think this will make the light of day. Especially since he's working on a film now and possibly won't even start until the fall.

BTW, although I actually liked the American versions of both Oldboy and LTROI. They didn't stay true to the books or manga. They were basically inferior versions of amazing movies which in turn makes them pretty good.

I love !

reply

All you "American remake" haters are free to not watch them. SMH!!

I don't love her.. She kicked me in the face!!

reply

For every remake there's one less original film so it's still a problem whether or not you watch it.

reply

Nonsense. I've been inspired numerous times to watch originals after seeing remakes.

reply

I don't think you get what I'm saying.

Studios are making less original films in favor of remakes. This is a fact.

This is not a good thing.

reply

HUNDREDS of US films are released every year and many more are being made. There's no shortage of new, original movies.

reply

That statistic means nothing. Actual people who work in the film industry have said that studios are less willing to take risks on new projects because it's safer to remake something.

reply

Well, I don't know about you but I'm not having the least bit of trouble finding new and great movies to watch. Remakes won't be popular forever, especially if people don't pay to see them.
