didn't quite understand what his purpose was with the elevator during the heist. i mean, he gets in the elevator, manually stops it (to which security overrides it), takes the panel apart, fiddles with some wires and then he's back down to the ground floor. didn't really make sense.

The elevator was the groups escape to the roof. It'd be awfully inconvienient if the elevator was on the 12th floor when they needed to get to the roof from the ground floor.

I also thought it might have been a distraction. The security team almost missed the robbery trying to figure out what was going on with the elevator.
