Was it just me, or...

...did anyone else really enjoy this movie? I'm a big fan of Elvis as well as Costner and, after reading reviews, didn't think I'd like it that much. I loved it! I think the acting was great and loved seeing Costner as the ruthless spawn of Elvis. It did have it's wtf moments though, like about halfway in the movie when Michael was chasing Cybil down the street and he fell and a dachshund in a sweater appeared out of nowhere... *beep* hilarious. It's not Oscar worthy but I don't think it deserves the bad rap it gets.

I can't explain it either but this movie worked for me. Predictable ending (as most of these caper-gone-wrong are) but a story that moves along. I liked the chemistry between Russell and Costner.

I really liked it too. I heard how bad it was that my expectations were really low. This is one of those movies that is so cheesy and over the top that it's actually fun to watch.

I don't have an opinion. The word "opinion" implies the possibility I'm wrong.

reply

Literally the only cheesy part for me was the draw with the cop. Other than that, it was a quite alright action movie.

It was just you.

Hey Rupe, from the comments here I think you'll find it's not him but you matey lol cos I loved it too. The problem the IMDb is that some people start the negative ball rolling for some very good films and others just jump on the bandwagon and so it ends up with an unjustifiably low rating, which is what I think probably happened with this film. But it also happens the other way too with truly dreadful drivel being lauded for no real reason and getting a high rating. Answer: always make your own mind up and don't listen to idiots.

reply

You're right. I'm the only one on imdb that doesn't like this movie. Good point.

Really? The film received a stunning 14% critical response and 48% popular response on rottentomatoes.com. Add that with the very mediocre 56% popular vote on this site and you have overwhelming evidence that very few people hold this film in high regards and IMDB's rating is at best inflated.

Are you legally sane? Yes, there is a movement among cinema fans to rally together in protest against a film that made absolutely zero waves (and box office) in the film industry. We are all coordinating our efforts in a grand conspiracy to sabotage the reputation of a film that lost 40 million dollars at the box office. The film is a sad, last ditch effort, for two aging movie stars to rekindle their leading man status. Do you think it succeeded?

I enjoyed it. It's dumb and corny but in a good way, not a great movie by any means but it's certainly watchable and not as bad as people make it out to be.

I thought Kevin Costner stole the show.

He really played a psycopath well.

Liked the movie right up until the last 15 minutes, then it was just over the top typical Hollywood crapfest. I mean 3 guys can outshoot about 20 SWAT members who already have the drop on them? And what exactly was on the roof of the neighbouring building that meant that a few bullets could create something akin to a thermonuclear explosion!

Had they had a less dramatic finale it would have improved the movie IMHO.

Yep, this one is real adventure. I've watched this movie several times and it still rocks!

reply

Nope I loved it too. Elvis, a serial killer, Vegas and Cox looking good - what's not to like? And the end credits are my favourite to any film perhaps with the exception of Electra Glide in Blue

Definitely a fun movie to watch. What happened to the director? This movie oozes style and a multiple of angles (action, crime, comedy, drama) that all work on their own little moments. This is a great flick to have a beer and some popcorn to - lots to enjoy.

But yeah, the final shootout is a little extreme. Outside of that, I'd say this flick is pretty rippin'.
