Idea: what if it wasn't all real?

I mean, of course it was all real. This could never have been deliberately thought and put in the film. But bear with me here as this is just a "what if" and quite stretched scenario...

The "Devil" was either a filthy rich regular woman or she's working with/to a filthy rich person, along with the "Angel" as it is clearly shown in the end.

Instead of donating to the poor they decided to have some fun.

They build up some scenarios, such as the pool table, to make some magic tricks and impress credible people, such as Elliot. She drugs him up (with the kiss) and the rest is easy. You've seem The Prestige (2006), get a twin to teleport. She even brings Elliot to a room, where the environment is a piece of cake to control. Ask any magician.

They would need to find a few people who look a little bit familiar to him, because as it might have been implied in the end, the drug can make him think old people are young, so maybe it could all be about the drug power and creating simple illusions.

Don't ask me on how they could change his personality, knowledge or languages he speak, but anyway...

Doable? :P

I know that's a terrible investment with no returns at all, but I'd sure at least try doing something like this if I were to ever become that rich and had no idea on what to do with so much money!

Very interesting thoughts!! It been quite a few years since I last saw this movie.
I am gonna check it out again!

I know its a remake movie, have you seen the original movie? (60ties i think?)
If there is a second interpretation, maybe its more clear in that movie?

reply

Yeah, I knew it was a remake, but never bothered to see the original. Bedazzled (1967)

I bet you this "interpretation" will be much less likely in it! ;-)

The devil is a man there.

just wanna say that that twin spoiler wasn't from the illusionist, it's from the prestige.....

It's mercy, compassion and forgiveness I lack. Not rationality...

reply

I'll (try to) fix it. Thanks! ;-)
