Elliot stops trying too hard in the end. How does this change him?

So, he has that confrontation with the mocking coworker...they're afraid of him...whatever.

How has this experience with the Devil changed him, exactly? If he's almost hopelessly dweeby at the beginning...now he's just hopelessly dweeby with some experiences under his belt, and I'm sure his coworkers would still go out of their way to avoid him. (He's obviously not suddenly a strong, confident stud because a few trying things happened to him.)

Is he making headway towards discovering who he really is in the end? He dates someone who plays well off of him...so does that mean that he starts exclusively hanging out with socially awkward people, and avoiding the "popular" crowd?

A squid eating dough in a polyethylene bag is fast and bulbous. Got me?

He just stops trying to be their friend. They obviously don't like him, so why should he bother?

Don't forget: towards the end, they weren't trying to avoid him anymore. They were mocking him to his face.

Elliot stands up to them and grabs Bob and intimidates him.

Elliot is the same guy without glasses and a different outfit on. But he also has a *beep* ton of confidence and a changed perspective. That's enough to change somebody's attitude and their actions.

Elliott learned to be happy with who he is.

Elliott learned to be happy with who he is. I think he also realized that he can't try too hard.
