Why BEDAZZLED?

Why was it called Bedazzled? To be BEDAZZLED means to be greatly impressed or temporarily blinded by a light.

Wouldn't the title BEDEVILED be a little more appropriate? Aside from the fact that Elliot meets the Devil, to BEDEVIL somebody means "to be a continual source of problems or irritation to something or somebody."

I think that's a more appropriate description of what Elizabeth Hurley was doing to poor Elliot.

Thoughts?

This is a remake of a 1967 movie with Dudley Moore and Peter Cook.

See the trivia section for an explanation.

Yeah, I know that. I'm asking why anybody, Cook/Moore or Larry Gelbart/Harold Ramis would call this Bedazzled, when Bedeviled is a much more accurate and appropriate name. It's not like they're trying to hide from the audience the fact that she's the Devil. She flat out says it.

And the trivia section of the original movie only explains why Peter Cook wanted to call it Raquel Welch. It doesn't explain why they chose Bedazzled over Bedeviled.

You're right. I mis-remembered that point in the trivia for the original movie.
I can't think where you'd find that information.
Sorry.

I guess the film makers thought Bedeviled may give it away and people may not be interested in watching it
Or it would be given away as a horror type movie when it is not so they may have found the name inappropriate
So chose Bedazzled, because she dazzled him with Alison to sign to contract in some sense or he wouldn't have done it otherwise

He IS temporarily blinded by the "light" that the Devil offers him. That's Fausts point.

The 1967 version of Bedazzled had a scene, where the main character wishes to be a Popstar. The devil appears as another popstar and sings the song Bedazzled (which is quite mesmerizing!!!).

In the remake, which is nearly a 100& copy of the original, a scene for a wish to be a rockstar has been shot, just didn't make it in the final cut. I guess the scene would have featured the song Bedazzled, since everything else is very close on the detail copy-wise.

Hence, they still took the same name like for the original movie. Maybe it had already been announced as Bedazzled, but the final cut left out the rockstar scene, which would have made it all clear?

Well that's exactly what he was - temporarily blinded by the seemingly greatness of the wishes.

And certainly the majority of the male audience was BEDAZZLED by Hurley. OH WOW!!!!

And really I think that was the main selling point of the title - check out the bedazzling Hurley in all these sexy outfits!
