Possibly the worst film I've ever seen.
Urgh. Just a terrible film! Got f all to do with Hellraiser, really. It's got pinhead in it. Whoopdedoo. Every 'plot twist' approaching could be from seen a mile away round the corner.

shareShut it you idiot!!!
This film ROCKS!!!!!!!!! The ultimate hellraiser flick!!
The whole point of the hellraiser films is not to show pinhead at every oppurtunity,it's to show what people will do for the ultimate desire!
Dude, it's a crap film and not worthy of the Hellraiser name!

It doesn't really demonised them anymore than Frank's actions are demonised. It's all about context, people read from films what they want. Some see Hellraiser as a warning against sin with the bad people punished.
In the end Josepth suffers for his own failings as a person. He's punished not because he sins or transgresses. He suffers because he fails to ADMIT and EMBRACE them. For a Cenobite Josepth must really seem petty... doing all this endulging and then runnign away and crying that he's a good person after. At least Frank KNEW what he enjoyed.

Well said. That is probably the most accurate description of Inferno I have heard. Well done.
shareI have to disagree. This was the worst out of the whole series. Pinhead's cameos were short. Infact I can barely even remember Pinhead even being in this film. The whole film was uninteresting and boring. Definately a let down. It ruins the Hellraiser name.

Sorry pal don't agree. You are of course entitled to your opinion. Like I have said umpteen times before, the Hellraiser movies were never about Pinhead...that's where Hellraiser III dropped the ball and totally missed the point. I feel Inferno captured the spirit of Clive Barker's story brilliantly and to me is the ULTIMATE Hellraiser movie!
shareHellraiser 3 was the biggest piece of crap i have ever seen! The guy with the camera through his eye saying stupid cliches like "thats a rap!". My god! Id rather watch Andy Warhol's "Sleep" backwards and forwards while being stabbed in the eyeballs with q-tips doused in Tobasco sauce... well maybe not but... you get my point. Ill give Inferno a shot only because the first 2 hellraiser's rocked!

hellraiser inferno is one of the better horror movies ive seen
sharei only liked 1 and 2, they seemed more true and authentic. 3-8 i didnt like. the thing with this film is that the whole concept of the engineer gets thrown off from the H1.
shareIt is definitely not the worst film I have seen. It is similar to crash in that it shows the corruption in shady cops. Joseph ends up on the wrong case at the wrong time. In the world of hellraiser, only the innocent prevail, and Joe is far from it. He is unfailthful to his wife, he steals numerous pieces of evidence, including money, drugs, and a box he was curious about. Joseph, being on drugs and having just opened a puzzle box, unleashes his own hell, which is very gruesome and nightmarish. He tries to maintain his sanity while on the force, and continues with the same murder case that brought him into this fiery "Inferno". It was probably the 2nd best of the series, and certainly original as opposed to the first few sequels. I would give this a **1/2 our of a **** rating.

When you open the box you go to hell are tortured forever. thats what hellraiser is all about right?
Well in this movie Joseph opens the box and is forced to live his own hell over and over again.
I think it's a great movie and has a LOT "to do with Hellraiser" IMO

I really ca't see Josepth being a Cenobite. If Frank cna't be then surely Josepth won't be. Josepth, I think, is one of the lowest forms of victim in Hell and that's why he's put through so much. Frank was HONEST about his desires. Josepth represses his desires and thinks up excuses and reasons (such as why its ok to cheat on his wife).
I never see Pinhead as judging Joseph. He's destroying Josepth's own view of himself. Because he's annoyed, all the Cenobites are. Here's a guy with all these desires and he represses them all. At leats with Frank he's open but Joe's repression probably angers the Cenobites more thna anything else.

Hmm. Interesting ideas from both of you. Now, I am relatively new to the Hellraiser game (saw the first one last year and got "hooked" into the franchise), but the way I took Inferno is this:
As Pinhead said in the first film, they are angels to some and demons to others. As he said in the second film, everyone has their own personal hell. I believe that Joseph's hell was living with his own guilt. Joseph desired persecution for his "sins." He could not accept his indulgences in the flesh, for he felt that he was killing his spirit in doing so. He wanted to be "good," and so his hell was facing his "evil" and being unable to "repent."
I place those words in quotes because they do not actually apply to the true intents of the cenobites, who have no morals. Pinhead only acts as moral judge because that is what Joseph secretly wishes him to be. Joseph wants a demon to punish him for his iniquities. In other words, his desire is "hell," not the unbound pleasures of the Labyrinth.
At least Inferno makes more sense than its immediate predecessor...

RE: Faceless Killer
I don't really think he looks like a cenobite though. His costume is just a version of what josepth wears, it isdn't the skin tight, mutilation of the Cenobites. And the face isn't scarrified, it's very smooth. At any rate the point was that teh faceless Killer is Joe with nothing but appetite (ie. a mouth), at leats that's what the director told me. :) There's a lot of symbolism in Inferno.

And what exactly DID Rick Bota do? Other than get Clive Barker involved again, use the Cenobites more and try to do as much to keep the fans happy as posible with the low budgets he was given and being undert the control of various producers? How anyone can't love Deader I have NO idea...

By his own interpretation, no. But then again, George Lucas's destruction of his own work has taught me that sometimes the film is better if it does not meet the initial intentions.

Director's opiniopns are never the be all and end all. Films are collaborative and once a viewer witnesses a film they again will change it. Meaning is fluid. I was simply pointing out the actual REASON why, when making the film, they went for that look and what they meant it to mean. However, you can take from it whatever you wish.

"I really ca't see Josepth being a Cenobite. If Frank cna't be then surely Josepth won't be."
Deepthroat was a 20 year old woman, Butterball was an obese loner, Pinhead was a scottish army vet from WW2 and Chatterer was a 12 year old boy. I dont think anyone fully understands what turns a massachist into a sadist, mabye it just takes time. I mean if youve been tortured for half an eternity youd probably get the basics of applying pain and suffering. I know thats not what happened in HR3 but it was produced and written by different people.
Are you kidding me? Worst movie you've ever seen?
You must not have seen Bloodline. Inferno is, in my opinion, the only successful attempt at continuing the Hellraiser series since 1 & 2, which are fantastic horror flicks, (that goes without saying). But release those movies in this millenium and the reviews would not be the same. Inferno is just about the best they could have gotten from another sequel about a box which brings demons, in the year 2000.
But in fairness, my judgement about this movie might be bad cause I was a fan of Craig Sheffer before watching this thanks to One Tree Hill.
The movie completely had me hooked. It made me feel all the emotions Joseph went through (i guess not to the same extreme levels though).
Great Hellraiser movie. Especially after Bloodline. I mean, after watching that movie I was left with no hope. Man it sucked.
Better then 3, unles you forget about the cenobites in 3 then it's about even. 4 is way better though.
EAT THIS!!!!!!-Hicks
{no matter what happened in alien3 hicks is alive.}
i liked this movie. i might be stupid as you would suggest but i didn't see the plot twists. I thought this was a great sequel at least it was original and a newer angle which was what the series needed. Plus Clive Barker wrote the script so if you guys really wanna say "it had nothing to do with Hellraiser" look at the writting credits. Anyways this goes as a stand alone movie as well.
Thanks all for some pretty good opinions!

I still think it's a good movie. It's one of the better ones in the series. I would in no way compare it to the original but it impressed me a little.
thanks for the reply.
I won't say 'worst ever seen', but this film is on my don't ever watch again list.
I was soooo bored, i FF the 2nd half to the interesting bits, so basically i FF almost the whole thing. Where was the developed story? The character building? Im sorry, it was all over the place. The acting was pretty bad, the little daughter crying for her daddy is one example.
Pinhead should not have been in this film at all, he was pointless and did nothing. There was nothing sinister or apprehensive about him at all.
This would have been better if it was just called Inferno, and had nothing to do with the Hellraiser franchise.
The writer/director tried too hard to give it an atmosphere of dread, clearly they failed.

I'm currently trying to watch all 8 movies but after 3 and 4, I kinda lost hope for the series. However after watching Inferno, I was rather impressed with how they presented the whole Hellraiser theme. It is different from the previous movies as it puts more emphasis on how one experiences his/her own hell. This film captures that concept and has some visual elements which draws deeper into the main character's mind and his experience with a hellish like state. This film was actually very good, quite a huge difference in terms of style and cinematography compared to the previous films which some can say is not true to the series, however I thought this was indeed a very good film as it offers something new.
Good stuff.
it certainly started well enough but then i found it to be a bit muddled, boring and lacking atmosphere.
also there were laughable moments (like the kung fu cowboys) it felt like the series was jumping the shark. Also after putting the cop under mental torment for a short while they just end up ripping his head to pieces at the end anyway.
i don't think hellraiser suits the crime/psychological thriller angle that this movie tries. kudos for trying something different but it didn't work
