...explain the fingers? And what his childhood (going home) had to do with anything? I'm lost there.
I get what he did to his wife, his family, his partner, his parents, etc., but I just don't get the finger removal.

His childhood represented his innocence and purity, before he became the decadent, corrupt jerk we know him as. As for the fingers? I think it's sort of a tradition with kidnapping, cutting off a body part and sending it to someone as a threat. Plus I think it symbolized how much time the child had left. Once all the fingers were gone, it would mean death.
