What if Joseph never even bothered with The Engineer?

This will probably come across as a stupid question but it is something I have really been wondering after watching it.

If after opening the box Joseph quit his job as a cop, found some part time job at Mc'Donalds and spent all his spare time on the couch eating Doritos whilst watching Jerry Springer re-runs instead of trying to hunt down The Engineer, would The Engineer still *beep* with him? Or does the fact that his trying to hunt down The Engineer have nothing to do with his "Punishment"?

He couldn't though as he was alreayd in Hell after he opened the Box. Had he refused to play Hell's game then they would have found ways to encourage him. But Hell knew he would, it knows his mind, the cenobite sno how to torment them. I suppose IF for whatever reaosn he utterly refused to play, then the illusion would be broken, the world around him would vanish to reveal the true nature of Hell he was trapped in. Like how in Part 2 Kirsty finds herself in her mothers old house and then it starts spinning to reveal the reality of the room in Hell.

technically working at McDonald's is considered Hell

so in this case the "Engineer" would become either his shift supervisor or general manager for his particular store

now for anyone as well as myself who's ever worked at a fast food restaurant can only imagine what personal Hell would have been brought upon Joseph then.

Anyone who spends a significant amount of time with me finds me disagreeable.
