Jason Stratham as Desolation Williams

How much better regarded would Ghosts of Mars be today had Stratham been cast in the role originally intended for him?

I got news for 'em. There's gonna be hell to pay. 'Cause I ain't Daddy's little boy no more.

Some people might have liked it a little move with Statham in the role, but I think the movie has enough problems that the general reception of the movie would still be mostly negative.

It would have made the movie a little bit better. One of the biggest flaws in Ghosts of Mars is how unconvincing and laughable Ice Cube is as this badass, toughy guy outlaw.

Hes short. Hes fat. And he looks silly in a fight scene. Hes so flabby they have to keep him covered in a black vest the whole movie to try and disguise it. Plus hes a crappy actor. Statham is no Marlon Brando but he has a charisma and can at least deliver his lines without it sounding like hes reading them off a cue-card.

The English accent alone would have killed the whole tough Guy thing. He's just not convincing as a tough Guy. (Hollywood tough Guy, sure) he's not intimidating.

Yea because Statham never went on to lead other action movies with his cockney accent. Keep your xenophic nonsense to yourself anyone can be a bad ass. Not being American hasn't affected Schwarzenegger, Connery, Van Damme, Neeson etc.

I would have liked it a lot better if Statham had played the "bad boy" and got to survive.

Would have been a hell of a lot better. This is a pretty underrated little B-Movie the biggest problem for me personally is the main cast, Natasha is a gorgeous woman but she has little charisma and Ice Cube has zero charisma all he does is snarl and snort. Statham would have at least elevated that. The studio really fuhked this one by forcing a popular rapper on Carpenter I'm surprised they didn't have him do the soundtrack too.

Then again this should have been a Snake Plissken movie but the studio weren't interested in that either...
