...When they realized that killing the "hosts of the ghosts" resulted in the ghost finding a new host... And yet they continued to kill them... LAME.

And as others have posited on the boards, going back to nuke them was a whole new level of special... What is wrong with the writers? It's like they intentionally took an okay idea and made it bad and wrong, with all the lead characters making illogical decisions constantly. Whatever you may think of Carpenter's previous creations, this was just plain lazy story telling, through and through.

When you got an army of possessed psychos trying to decapitate you and there's no where to run and you can't knock them all out the only thing to do is kill them and run and hope the ghosts don't get you. What else are you supposed to do??

Yea trying to nuke them wasn't very smart but they figured they were screwed and it was worth a shot. But there weren't that many zombies (that we could see anyways); the logical thing to do would be to return with more military people and use non lethal methods to capture them and lock them away again.

Well, they know the "ghosts" are a mist that possesses people. They figured the nuke would vaporize EVERYTHING, including the ghosts.

Why would they assume this? Isn't it more likely it would spread the mist faster and wider?

Why not kneecap them and then deep-freeze their bodies. The ghosts won't spread and they can't do any harm.

Have the military spray drugs on them (like crop dusting) then when the ghosts are all misty, have the army come in with a butt-load of Shop-Vacs. Problem Solved.

All they had to do was aim lower.

It's harder to hit them in the legs compared to the chest, especially while running. And we don't even know for sure if that would have stopped them, unless they got knee-capped. They were all into self-mutilation after all.

It would slow them down for sure. Killing them is way too risky.
