I've noticed that the film has quite a lot of ratings for a short film from 1898, but it has no user comments on the front page. Have people actually seen this, or are they just rating it a '10' just because of it's title?

shareI am not sure this film (and some other 189x) films with similar titles even exist. I have actively attempted to find all available films from this era.
At this point there are 8 films with 100 or more votes that I have not seen (including this one) that were made before 1900 that I have not found. All but one other of these (Monkeyshines No.2) are available on one of the "When the Movies Began" sets. The only other silent film I have not seen with this many votes (1597 at time of writing) is a 1920 version of The Golem and there are only 10 other films through 1935 with that many votes that I have not seen.
I think imdb.com should either delete this film or provide evidence it once existed. Either way, it should seriously review the votes for this film and probably many other votes by people who voted on this entry.

after seeing the rating for "the avengers" i can somehow relate to the sentiment, but i fail to see the use of a "protest" since the top 250 is just what it is. the mainstream average of what people of the "like/dislike" generation like.
if more people like mindless action-hero flicks, then that is what's in the top list.
somehow people forgot how voting systems with 10 stars work and just vote 1 or 10 depending on whether they "liked" the movie or not.
some day a movie called "ass", showing only an ass for 90 minutes, will win 8 oscars.. including best screenplay. i see it coming. ^^
