Stingiest Man in Town: ORIGINAL TV Version (pre-1978)
The 1978 animated version of "The Stingiest Man in Town" was a watered-down, gimmicky version of the original live-action musical that was broadcast on NBC-TV in the mid-1950's--unfortunately before the advent of videotape. The original ON SCREEN cast included Basil Rathbone(!) in the title role (did he ever appear in another musical production?), Vic Damone, and other stars of the 1950's. The Original Cast monophonic record album of the songs only (very limited dialog) was issued on a Columbia (now Sony) LP. It included a "Concerto Inferno" with the composer as the piano soloist.
This inquiry is made because my high school performed this original version of "The Stingiest Man in Town" with, ummm, me in the title role.
Is there a copy of a kinescope of the original 1950's broadcast available anywhere?
