Something about this movie really creeps me out. I did think it was very entertaining and imaginative, but maybe it was a little too out there for me or something. The fooglies or floopies or whatever they're called kind of scare me, and I'm 18 years old, and something about Alan Cumming's character seemed a little pedophile-ish to me. It just overall doesn't sit right. Did anyone else get this feeling?
Absolutely no way! Floop is not a pedophile at all. He's just an imaginative man who, really, never grew up. I don't see how you can think of him as a pedophile; I see him as completely non-sexual.
It was on tonight and scared the poo out of me, and I'm 28. The Floogies scared me and the transformation of Cheech Marin to a Floogle scared me too. Brrr
I remember when Spy Kids came out, I was pretty young and I was obsessed with it. It was creepy and that's what turned me on to it. I think if it was a normal, non-nightmare inducing movie for kids I would have totally just said forget it. :D
-- If my friends and I are the future of America, this country is screwed up the ass....
It ahs been a while since I seen this movie but for me anything that shows people losing their humanity or their (for want of a better word) "Essence" creeps me out there was a movie series called American Ninja and the later of the sequals had a similar machine that turned GI Joes into enemy warriors and to me seeing some-one die wasn't upsetting but these people becoming something that they were not meant to be was
^ Completely agree. Never thought of it that way but now that you mention it, that's exactly why this movie creeped the heck out of me when it when it came out. It also reminds me of how terrified I was by that disney Atlantis. Ugh, put these two together and now I know where all my childhood nightmares came from...
Was Floop weird? Yeah. The character was Willy Wonka meets Pee Wee Herman. But creepy? I don't think so. Creepy would be those disturbing fooglies. Those things were nightmarish. Made Oompa Loompas look cute and cuddly.
__ Long ago men competed on a show to date a woman who competed on a show to date Flava Flav.
The character was meant to give off a weird not quite right vibe.
Before we ever learn Floop is kinda bad or even see him, Antonio Banderas is talking to his wife and when he's talking about Juni he says "All he ever does is watch that demented kids show"
It struck me that he would refer to a kids show as demented. And when the woman plays the Fooglies song backwards, Carmen tells Juni, "I told you Floop was a freak"
