Any insight on the open doors?

I imagine all the doors left open is symbolism of something, but I totally don't get it. Catch never closed any doors, and in one scene when he was leaving Sharon's apartment in a huff, he actually flung her front door open. They even say a little about it in the movie. Sharon says, "we have to work on that." Any insight on the siginificance?

If you can get ahold of the DVD and listen to the director commentary, somewhere in there he explains the meaning of him leaving the doors open. He explains a lot of really mundane things about the movie too, that you don't really need to know. It's not interesting commentary, but I remember that he did talk about the doors.

Thanks! I will have to rent it because I'd like to see that commentary.

Yes, because he did say (or hint) that he thought he was dead- he didn't think he could fall in love, he really wasn't concerned for his saftey. Maybe 'closing the door' on something is equal symbolically to 'letting go' which he couldn't do either. There's a finality that he just couldn't deal with.

Great question!

That is so insightful - "closing the door". I never thought of that at all! I knew somebody would make it click for me if I kept checking.

Cheers.

this is probably stupid but i thought that he was leaving the door open for his son and wife- like he would have done when they were alive- and as he couldnt remember them/was blocking the memory, he didnt know himself why he did it.
