Am I the only one who thought his facial scars...

Weren't that bad? I just rewatched this movie on cable and I remember having the same reaction the first time. Yes, his scars are visible but they weren't nearly as bad as the reactions his face invoked! I could see kids maybe staring a little but you would think he had half a face the way adults would stop and stare.

I've encountered people that are disfigured before working in the public sector and yes, sometimes it makes you pause for a quick second, but it takes a lot more than his burn scars to shun a room into complete silence!

I'm not trying to be insensitive towards those who are disfigured - HIS reactions make sense. It's eeveryone else that didn't make sense!

P. S. - It also seemed like they made his scars look worse when he was finally leaning in to kiss Helen Hunts character even though they had done several close ups prior to that scene.

P. P. S. - I'm referring to his facial scars that everyone can see. Obviously the scars on the rest of his body were very disfiguring.
