Terrible ending

That ending was ridiculous. The film would have been so much better without it. It wasn't a great film by any stretch of the imagination, but that ending ruined any and all credibility it had. The film was sitting on a very satisfying note until the twist which felt thrown on for the hell of it. Poor.

I agree. The filmmakers should have left us with the feeling that helping others is a good thing. Most of these forward payments turned out bad. I would like to believe (maybe wrongly) that we would be better persons if we tried to help someone. This ending sent the message that " help doesn't pay". Awful ending, awful message. Why can't Hollywoodt settle for a happy ending????

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think the message was meant to be that doing a good deed sometimes involves readiness to sacrifice. You know, like Schindler, or Ghandi.
