Actually okay with the ending? (SPOILERS)

Am I the only one who was actually okay with the ending? I can understand why a lot of people don't like it though. Yes, it was very sad... I cried my eyes out. But when you sit down and think about it, Trevor's death made the whole story more memorable, in my opinion.

A lot of people seem to think that the death scene in the movie was really unnecessary and that it was just used for cheap tears. But... I believe that it has a deeper meaning. Trevor left behind a memory as a sweet, kindhearted little boy who started a revolution with the “pay it forward” plan.

His death emphasized the fact that he wanted nothing more to be happy and selflessly share his happiness with others. It helped the movie characters realize what a rare little treasure he was. Sometimes, tragedies have to happen in your life in order to open your eyes and realize that you don't always love and appreciate someone as much as you should... until they're gone.

So... without the death scene, that lesson in the movie would not have been made clear. You know what I'm saying? Sorry this was so long. It just had use a lot of words to get all my thoughts down. So if you happen to read this really long discussion board topic, I would love to know what you think of it. I'm just curious to know if anyone agrees with me at all? I'll consider any contradicting comments too.

One quick last thing: Don't just blame the creators of the movie for the ending though. It was based on a book of the same name, in case any of you didn't know. So I haven't read the book yet, but I've heard that both endings are very different, although Trevor gets stabbed and dies in both of them...

I LOVED the ending. I loved that it wasn't the perfect happily ever after drivel they pour out in most other movies. It made the story feel more REAL to me.
