I remember both Sonic cartoons, I loved them when I was a kid. They had totally different animation styles and storylines. One was all serious with Princess Sally etc. The other was the less serious one with Scratch and Grounder. Why was there two of them though? Was it just to hit wider target audiences?
This 65-episode cartoon was originally supposed to air on ABC Saturday mornings, but ABC thought it was stupid and rejected it. So the show's production company, DiC, dumped it in their syndication blocks. They then created a darker one that ABC accepted.
I remember that. there was one on Abc saturdays I called it the saturday sonic. it was way more serious and i found the "weekday Sonic" funny and enjoyable and i actually still do. when I was young I taped nearly every episode of the "WD Sonic" and quite a few of the other one to.
I even got some episodes i did not tape as a gift once. I remember back then i was like 5 or 4 so i remember one time i dressed up in a sonic costume and pretend that certain objects were DRR's machines.
Later on i dug up these old episodes and watched them again. surprisingly, i laughed out loud on every one! Same with Beast Wars, and Micky Mouse.
i remember i liked sonic so much that i started a nintendo vs. Sega war in my elementary school when 64 came out. i remeber when someone said "mario has better things to do than run around all day collecting rings" and i responded "yeah like what eat pizza and jump on turtles?" I always thought sonic hade more attitude and was cooler, and mario was just an old fat italian guy with a mustache, nothing special there.
Yeah. It's really sad that they could create such a BAD Sonic the Hedgehog Cartoon. Honestly though, besides the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, the other 3 series were TERRIBLE. The slap-stick comedy, the triplet series and the ridiculously weird Anime episodes don't just pale in comparison...they bleach out entirely.
