Sonic Says Quickies

How many people like how they use Sonic Says segments at the end of episodes? It's interesting to show Sonic as an educational on safety and being good. They're also much like the Garfield Quickies from the other excellent show, Garfield and Friends. So what do you feel about them?

I think they were there because of US guidelines on how a set amount of kids' TV has to be "educational", rather than out of any genuine philanthropic instincts.

The UK uut those segements completely from terrestrial airings.

Does anyone remember the the one were he talks about how molesting people is bad. It was the weirdest thing I ever heard on that show.

I'm sorry I missed them. I only have the UK versions (trying to build up a collection here!) Wonder why they cut them?

I really liked those. My favorite ones is the one where Sonic says "There are three rules of how not to be stupid, Rule 1) Stay in school, Rule 2) Stay in school and rule 3) Follow rules 1 and 2." and the one where Coconuts is running away from home.

Have they only cut them from the UK versions recently? When I was used to watch it (in the UK) when I was younger, I can't recall which channel the education segment was always on at the end. It was also was slightly more recently on Channel 4 but I don't think they show it on any channel now, right?

reply

I remember watching them on C4 when I was about ten or eleven...Sunday morning at 9am, regular as clockwork :D That was over ten years ago (scary thought) and they didn't have the Sonic Says there, although if you watch UK videos closely, it's mentioned in the credits. Maybe someone'll release the full versions on DVD *crosses fingers*

Not as far as I know.

Strangely, the satelite channel which picked the show up for its first non-terrestrial run (TCC) did leave the segments in. Maybe that's what you remember?

The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog" (1993)
Was made buy DIC Entertainment
DIC Entertainment also mad
Inspector Gadget. And Inspector Gadget
Always had a safety thing at the end.

That sounds incredibly stupid. I'm glad the channels I used watch it on didn't show them. Weird American broadcasting standards and their bizarre attempts to "educate" their nations youth.

Edit: Bahahaha! Just watched a few on YouTube and have to say they're freakin' hilarious. I can't believe I just saw Tails take a drag of a smoke! That's messed up....

And just in response to the tumble drier episode of Sonic sez, did you as a child find that you had to be told not to ride inside the tumble drier? Because I can honestly say I didn't....

Ah yeah makes me remember when shows didn't just serve to push a brand or some tastelessness music group and/or artist like well all of the shows on Nick these days.
