What Happened in the End?

The loan sharks called Terry back and when he tried to lie about why he didn't have the money the guy hung up on him. Then he went to the bank and tried to get some more money and got caught in another lie.


Erin got fired because she was suspected of taking the drugs home and being an addict in general. She lost her medical license.

Terry & Erin have an arguement. Terry goes out to find some drugs to keep Ruby sedated with. Erin goes to the living room and puts on old vacation tapes of her and Ruby and Ruby's parents. She drugs herself and goes to lie down with Ruby because she feels guilty for what she helped Terry do to her & Rhett.

After Ruby came to in the morning, she found Erin dead next to her of an overdose. Terry returns with some drugs, unware of what has happened to Erin and finds her dead in Ruby's bed. Ruby calls somebody on the phone but it is unclear who at the time.

Terry tries to find Ruby after he hears part of her conversation. He searches the house for her. Ruby goes to Rhett's room and they hide from Terry under Rhett's bed. Terry leaves the room.

Rhett tries to run out of the front door and Terry catches him, dragging him toward the kitchen. Ruby hits Terry in the head with something and runs but they are both caught and thrown in the basement. "This is where I should have put you from day one" remarks Terry. After he locked the kids in the basement, Terry pulls the Jaguar out of the garage for an unknown or unclear reason

The kids are trying to break out of the basement through a window, while Terry gets drunk and falls asleep on the living room couch. Ruby tells Rhett that there will be a change in plans. The kids get out through the window and Rhett goes inside to retrieve the keys to the Jaguar.

The kids watch Terry sleeping until the doorbell rings. It's Mr. Begleiter. He tells Terry that he's being investigated and that the courts will step in for the children. Terry turns and watches the security camera and sees the loan sharks coming up to the front door. Before Terry can close the door the sharks come in. Terry blames Mr. Begleiter as the theiving silent partner. When Begleiter tries to leave, the loan shark stabs him.

Terry tries to laugh off the problem, but the loan sharks insist on "taking him for a ride". Terry insists on taking the Volvo, but Ruby has slashed the tires just in time. The Jaguar's brakes have been tampered with by Terry, an obvious trick to kill the kids because Terry knew they would escape. The loan shark takes the Jag, causes an accident driving the Jag and they crash off of the side of a cliff. Terry survives.

The kids are seen walking down the road, and are picked up by a state policeman. They get in the car, and drive by part of the 1st wreckage. They drive on after their police escort asks if he can be of any assistance. They come upon the 2nd wreckage, where Terry is still laying unconcious. The policeman gets out to check and see if there are any survivors. Terry attacks the policeman and steals his gun. Terry approach the police car and Ruby gets into the driver's seat of the police cruiser. She throws the car into reverse backing away from Terry, who is concealing the gun behind his back. He comes closer, and Ruby, remembering what Terry had down to her parents and hearing her mother's screams in her head, puts the car in drive and hits Terry with the car. He dies.

The kids are next show putting flowers on their parents graves with their uncle, whom they go to live with in Chicago.
