Hamlet...

What's with the Hamlet obsession anyway. I do realize that this movie isn't exactly Gone with the Wind, but even a 10-yr-child would see the suggestion, which is utterly ridiculous by the way.

The idea that there is a parallel between what's-her-name and Hamlet just undermines this mediocre movie even further. And by the way (ok, this might have been just the character's "fault") Hamlet isn't the most famous English revenge play (as shown on her laptop screen), because Hamlet ISN't a revenge play. Traditional renaissance revenge plays had characters like Laertes (from Hamlet), who sought plain and simple revenge, bloody and all. Hamlet is way more complex.

Hamlet is used to show the "murder most foul" and the whole Revenge this "foul and unnatural murder" because that is what sends Ruby over the edge. It's not that Hamlet is set on revenge, it the fact that he is convinced that he must find out if what the ghost says is true before he can act. And Ruby is sort of the same way-she doesn't really suspect anything until she fins the BMW thing on the police report and then begins to suspect things.

Sorry...we just finished reading Hamlet today. I got this down packed.
