Why did Diane Lane's character kill herself? I never got that...

lost her job for stealing drugs to feed her habit
felt guilty for drugging the Rubie

The main reason why she felt guilty was because she was also responsible for the deaths (murder) of the kids' parents.

I don't know if she was actually complicit in killing Ruby's parents, but she lost her medical license and then Terry said they would have to kill Ruby. That was too much for her and pushed her over the edge.

Shortly before she did she said she could not do it anymore. I am not sure what all she was referring to but she was pressured into doing things like sell drugs and she did not like it.
