how I would've ended the movie
I would've built up the relationship between blanchett and kinnear and had them end up together.

So I'm wondering, who would be Jessica's killer in your movie? Surely you wouldn't have Annie end up in a relationship with a murderer.
I know who I am! I'm a dude playing a dude disgused as another dude!
I would've built up the relationship between blanchett and kinnear and had them end up together. Then you would have had an incredibly predictable and boring movie.
i would have never ended this film like X-factor!!!!
what´s true what not..are we kidding you, do you believe in that...was he dead, if he was dead, how did he drive with her? if he was alive how did he disappear? open your mind for that what u can´t solve..
No, this bad enough without a "happy ending."
I would have ended it after the opening credits.
It was weak writing IMHO to make Wayne the killer (Kinnear), which of course ruined the possibility of Wayne and Annie (Blanchett) walking off into the sunset. Making Valerie (Swank) the killer would've been a better choice or perhaps the most obvious suspect, prosecutor David Duncan (Gary Cole). But, no, the writers had to go with the eye-rolling 'twist' of the seemingly innocent person being the murderer, which has been done to death.
shareKinnear was perfect as the killer of Katie Holmes’ character. Good ole amour fou. Wasn’t she a handful? Keanu was terrifying. One of my favorite roles of his. The story of Buddy Cole is pure Billy Bob. Weak one was Swank. I mean her acting. And making her the killer would be the absolute worst writing with the predictable scorned long-suffering wife. And boring. Walking off into the sunset…. Honestly. Why?
shareWith 20 minutes to go, it becomes fairly clear that Wayne is the killer, which just made me roll my eyes. I was like, 'Please don't let him be the murderer.' It's just such a Hollywood cliché to have the most seemingly innocent individual end up being the killer. On top of that, the movie provokes the viewer to hope for Annie and Wayne to find happiness together as a family since they clicked in a warmhearted way. So, it's not just the cliché, it's having that 'stolen' from the viewer by the contrived writing.
Nevertheless, I thought about it and see your perspective. It's a quality movie and makes a worthy point (despite the banality of who the slayer ends up being) -- sometimes the most likely suspects are innocent of the crime in question while the least likely one is the culprit.
I am not sure it is that quality of a movie. Compared to some movies currently - definitely. But it is fun. The cast is good and even the lesser roles like Keanu and Katie - are the best. I didn’t see leaving the murder reveal to the end of the movie or even guess who it was that important. For me, it was how you got there. The foreseeing of the future as she was a psychic. And then how it happened - how Katie threw the ring at Kinnear and basically said he was boring and that she was only with him because her daddy liked him. All the while she is wearing practically nothing. Also, I love the courtroom scenes with Gary Cole and the late great Michael Jeter mocking the whole seeing the murder scenes in her head. I loved The Savannah-like Georgia locale. And then the whole thing with Buddy and the blue diamond and what the meaning of that was. Buddy had passed into the next life to be the angel that saved her was quite touching too.
shareYou can't beat the cast and the Southern Gothic ambiance is great, plus the flawed characters are nicely fleshed-out. Despite the legit criticisms, it's a quality enough drama/crime thriller for me to rate it 7/10.
