He sacrificed so much or Kate.....

.....yet it seems like she never did make any for him. Love the movie, but I can't help but be somewhat annoyed with Kate's character. Jack left London and came back for her, he took over for her Dad at the shop when he had a heart attack and he gave up a chance at a well paying, fulfilling job. She essentially did nothing to meet him half way or to put his wants or needs first for an occasion (and when she did she did it with a underlying tone that she wanted to make him feel bad like when she said "I'll uproot our kids from the only home they've known".

Again, I love the movie. But that part always really bothers me.

That bothers me too a bit. Her speech was great until that line you wrote there where she was saying "uproot our kids" or something like that. Why make him feel bad? He really sacrificed so much for her,... the least she could do is move to the city with him, or at least meet somewhere in the middle.

Love this movie too by the way, seen it probably like 20 times :D

Exactly what I was thinking. If I were his wife I would encourage him to take that job and move to NYC with him.

She could have at least met him halfway and let him try the commute.

That's what I was thinking, too. I thought that making compromises was a part of marriage. So why was she refusing to make any compromises with him? Why did it have to always be her way? Why did she have to make him feel guilty?

reply

Because, feminism.

Men can no longer make decisions without feminist guilt based on feelings and emotions instead of logic and reason.
