The movie missed its own point (spoilers)

It was a good premise IMO, they used Jack who was a rich workaholic, who wasnt completely heartless. I think they should have had older kids than the younger ones he had in the film, that would have made more sense. The heart attack and him stepping in I get, but it makes no sense a guy that smart would still be there after all that time, maybe I could see it if he was already raising kids, but it looked like they didnt have any until almost 30 years old. Also, it seems pretty far fetched that he would want that glimpse life instead of his own life currently. Maybe he decides to try and settle down and have kids eventually, but pining for his old girlfriend of 13 years is ridiculous.

i gotta say maybe you missed the.point. his glimpse was the point! yes having money is awesome and now ive awoken to this *beep* life with this *beep* house and no freedom to do whatever the hell i want. but then he gets to living this *beep* life, and spending time with this girl he truly loved abd now she's a woman and still so beautiful to him and remembers how much he really cares still got her and how much he loves those kids. and so he realized that life his with the money the cars the 2000 dollar suits... *beep* that *beep* there is nowhere else he would rather be then in that life with his family.
i know all that probably sounded pretty gay but... as i was typing it i was remembering scenes. the honey moon, playing with his daughter in the snow. i feel like everything i just said was made pretty clear in the.movie... so yaa... maybe rewatch it

It was clear what they were saying but it still didn't add up. Cage should have reevaluated his priorities perhaps, but him throwing his life away completely to work at a tire shop is crazy. I would prefer him doing things like cancelling the Christmas day meeting or maybe delaying the merger until after the New Year. A lot of people live wild but decide to settle down in their late 30's.

true. bail on his business trip or not he definitely could have continued that career. the thing that got me though was how angry she was when he told her he got that job and showed her the condo or house they could live in. why aren't more girls like that... got to find me that one .

the problem is that the film painted it so that he loved his rich life and basically hated nearly everything about his new life except his wife and maybe the children, hell he was still pining for the ibank job near the end of the film. it really just made it seem like he wanted to settle just for a girl he liked

Not ridiculous at all. Money is great, most of us wish we had more. But sometimes life makes us choose, and once you had a chance to have a life filled with a family you love more than anything, you would never choose to give that up for anything.

Plus, let's not go too far by saying he has a **** life. He doesn't just sell tires, he runs the business. That's not a bad gig for most people. They own a nice house in a nice neighborhood. They have good friends, a short commute, he has time to bowl and play with his kids. And again, he is with the woman he loves more than anyone in the world (whom he realizes he never did stop loving), and he loves his children. As he said at the end, he now realizes Kate was a better person than him, and consequently she makes him a better person.
