For the life of me I can't comprehend how anyone can love this film. It is just absolutely dull beyond word. I first saw it back in 2000 and didn't like it at all. Then this year I decided to give it another chance. I figured having not seen it in 16 years I could go into it completely fresh and just see it for what it was... which I did, and I had the exact same reaction as the first time. The movie wasn't badly made, it was just mind numbingly boring and a real chore to finish. How in the world can anyone rate this thing so highly?

Definitely not M. Night's best film. Not by a long shot.

It's his masterpiece to some (including me). When Bruce is stuck in the pool and the hostage kids give him a stick to pull himself out and the shot of him rising out of the pool always puts a tear in my eye. What a great film about unhappy people that are hurting inside. It came out way ahead of its time. A proper adult comic book film set in a realism.

Agreed - Rented this movie when it was a new release and it dragged on. Have watched parts of it here and there over the years and it's still weak sauce. Way over rated above 7, I give it a 5.

I was wondering why it's so beloved too, then I saw the twist and I was like "Oooo," and then the words came out and I was like "WTF? After all that?"

It's called character development, great dialogue, good story telling.

It's a matter of opinion dumb ass. You may not like smart slow movies. Other people love them. This movie is brilliant.

This is not not everyone, you also probably would've hated The Godfather films and Lawrence of Arabia, films that take their time and focus on character driven themes.
