it is a real insite into teenage parties, any regular teenage party has often has a subtle instance of pressure for sex using drugs, alcohol and/or pressure.
maybe that fact frightened people from the movie
usually teen movies show the glamour of sex (old school, american pie etc)
but this was hardcore highlighting the cruel shallow nature of some teenagers toward women/girls.
