A Skotch, what the hell is that??
Does anybody really say "skotch" in real life? If so, where are you from? I'm just curious.

shareI happen to know this, having made a couple of USN cruises to the far east, (a long time ago). It's pronounced "skosh" with a long "o" and based on a Japanese word meaning "a little bit".

I've heard the word used IRL before. It's normally used my middle-aged midwestern women.
shareI'm from St. Louis, Missouri and I've heard/said skootch all my life. Just means to move over a little bit. Im kinda shocked that someone wouldn't know what it means.
Like if some dude is sittin right next to me when theres an open seat to the right i'd be like skootch man!

Just because I didn't recognize a word I never hear much does not mean I'm "uneducated". I'm very educated. I couldn't spell it because I've only heard the word in the movie. There are often words used across the country/english-speaking countries that are very regional. If you need an example, people in the Midwest will refer to soda as "Pop". If I were to call soda "pop" in the Southwest, they would know right away I was from Midwest and probably refer to myself as a "Snowbird". Where I live, NOBODY says "Can you turn that down a 'Skoach'?"

Skotch and Skootch are two different things.
A skotch, as it is used in the movie and in plenty of other places in real life just means 'a little bit'. It's not a real form of measurement.
Skootch, as in 'skootch over' is different and is not used in the movie.
In my family we say things like "Control Box" instead of remote and "Ice box" instead of Fridge or refrigerator. I got made fun of so many times in college for it! >.<
