I dont get it!!!

Near the end of the film while Dora and Alcott are shopping before going to see his parents, Dora says to him "Oh, by the way thank you for the flowers". he looks puzzled, and then very quickly says "Yeah don't mention it" nervously. Why'd he do that?

reply

he looked puzzled and satys 'what flowers?' because he hadnt sent her any. then she says something like 'the ones you sent me when id been in hospital' and he couldnt exactly say 'erm sorry darling, i didnt send you any flowers, i didnt even come visit you or anything but you've got a nice bum' could he lol. the only way to stop the conversation and stop her from working out that he hadnt sent any was to say 'dont mention it' as in its not a problem, least i could do kinda thing.

I think he also said that he sent the flowers to stop her from saying she had her stomach pumped since they were in a very upscale clothing store. alcott's image is everything to him....ugh. men.

I can see how the sexism was called for.

i know what part you meant, he said don't mention it because he didn't want anyone to know she put him as her next of kin, it didn't click when she first mentioned the flowers, all he focused on was she mentioned her stomach being pumped and he she put him as her next of kin

"sir, sir, i gotta check and see if you've soiled yourself, I'll get to you in a moment, sir!"

reply

I think he just wants her to stop talking, so he said "don't mention it!" to end the conversation.
