Dora is a near perfect woman with ONE debilitating problem.
Always dug this movie, and the main reason for that is the character of Dora, played by Mena Suvari. Ever since I was young I've been looking for a woman like Dora. She's cute and sexy at the same time, with a button nose and large eyes (like a human anime). Her hair hits the balance between unkempt and tousled; her wardrobe and makeup are grunge-goth perfection (I still LOVE that "grunge"-y thing...boots and fishnets and raccoon makeup included). She loves animals, likes Everclear and Garbage, and knows how to sneak into Cabaret on Broadway (is that even possible?).
She's only got one problem, though, and it's a BIG one. Her relationship with Greg Kinnear's character betrays a certain lack of self-esteem, and borders on the delusional at times. How much cruelty will she put up with while chasing her dream of being the teacher's pet? The "happy" ending is too pat by half; You get the idea while watching the film that her attachment to her idea of Kinnear is so strong that if Paul hadn't come along to shake her out of the funk, she might be one of those suicide cases you hear about on the news.
I guess I'd like to know (from anyone on this board) if any of you have ever had a relationship with a Dora-like woman (or are one yourself), and if the trouble is really worth it.
