Question about the book (spoilers)

Do we ever find out what Josie wrote in her note to John Barton?

And I saw in another post that it's strongly suggested that John Barton was attracted to Josie in the novel... How so?

I ordered the book from my book store and they ended up getting me the screenplay instead. So frustrating! Thanks.

I haven't seen the movie yet! Wondering if it's difficult to find in the US.

~~~~~Book Spoilers~~~~~~
You don't get the exact text in the novel. Josie does mention after John's demise that she can't even recall what she wrote in her letter. Emphasis on the fact that Josie's gripes were trivial compared to John's.
John was attracted to Josie. Initially, she was to him as well. Marchetta actually makes mention of this in the novel. I can't remember the exact point, but John specifically tells Josie he had a crush on her year 10 and she admits much the same.
Glad to see people are still talking about this movie and book even though they've been around for a long time. :)
As well it should be. There seems to be very little in the way of literature of this level anymore, which is a crying shame. And sometimes it feels as if kids aren't embracing reading things in the same way they did in years past.
(and now i feel like an old geezer for actually using "kids" in a sentence.)
