When you start with Leo and add Scorsese and Daniel day Lewis.. You're going to get something special..
As the American Cival War is imploding around them this tale of revenge/ control over the Lower East Side. Leo(Vallon) still seething from his fathers death, struggles to cope with his emotions as he plots the best way to take down Lewis(The Butcher) he is taken under his wing. And works his way up to being the centre of The Butchers attention. He learns from him and there is a mutual respect.
However when the Butcher, realises who he is there is ultimately a war going to erupt in New York.
This Masterpiece has been written and directed in a way that you have empathy for both leading Characters. And for me was a shock that Leo didn't receive an Oscar.
The cast is pretty impressive even the background/ camoes..

Definitely worth a watch, but you'll need patience as its a long film, but you will be rewarded in this masterpiece
