I know the graphics have been mentioned, but I just borrowed the PS2 version and I think they're pretty bad. Not so much the whole thing, but Claire's clothes are all childishly bright and simple which I thought made the whole thing look a bit rushed. I dunno, I haven't played Resident Evil for a while but I tend to remember the character's clothes being a tad more realisitic and a teeny bit gritty and cool looking.
Um... game was originally made in 2000-2001 when it came to America, at least by my reckoning. So yeah, they're a bit dated, but they're by no means "bad." They get the job done, and even if the character models are a bit stiff, that was more or less expected in a RE game back then. Since that time, it's been fixed.
As for the outfits... Claire wore blue jeans and a red vest thingy. If you compare her outfit to the outfits of RE heroes prior to Code Veronica, we have:
-Chris and Jill from RE1. They wore their STARS uniforms. Pretty standard considering the assignment they were on. Realistic as well. As for gritty... I don't even think the term 'gritty' applies here. To me, gritty is like... "My clothes are black and covered in blood."
-Leon and Claire from RE2. Leon was in his RPD cop outfit. Pretty standard and realistic. Claire was riding on her motorcycle when she entered the scene, so she was wearing some pretty casual clothing. I don't think griity applies here either.
-Jill from RE3. Um... blue boob tube and a black skirt combined with a white sweater tied around the waste. Realistic? Um... I dunno. But, uh, her attire is just as simple and "childishly bright" as Claire's REC:V outfit.
My advice is this:
Adjust your TV's settings so that the colors are not that bright. Either that, or get yourself a better quality TV. Furthermore, if you have bad vision, you'll tend to see things a bit more blurry then they really are. PS2 games tend to have passable graphics at the very least, and I myself own the GameCube port of Code Veronica. Assuming the graphics weren't upped THAT much in the port, I'm assuming we're looking at the same Claire. The detail on her outfit did the job, and nothing was too flamboyant or bright.
Capcom didn't cut corners in RE Code: Veronica, bottom line.
I still think the graphics on this game are brilliant. Ok, they're a bit crusty at a couple of points in the game, but this "looks" the best out of any Resident Evil game.
EDIT: Considering when it was realeased. The graphics might not match up to RE0 or the remake, or RE4, but they're still damn good. It's more atmospheric than any of those.
Naw, my television quality and eyesight are perfect. Okay then, maybe gritty wasn't the term I was looking for. I suppose I'm just biased towards the first Resident Evil, where most of the colours were drab and miserable. I just thought they were better suited to the atmosphere of the game. The bright pinks and browns I see on Claire in Code Veronica don't seem to suit the mood of the game, then again it is more of an action game than the first one, which was more horror. *beep* it, I need a life.
