This movie could have been great sci-fi

Watching the movie, it felt a lot like somebody submitted a great sci-fi script to a producer. The producer didn't think the script was good enough, or perhaps that the timing for such a movie was bad. They then asked for a re-write so that the movie became an action movie with Schwarzenegger.

There were many elements in the future that totally make sense, such as the self-driving cars (not a popular topic in year 2000), a helicopter remotely controlled (not far from a drone), etc. The only far-fetched sci-fi element is the "syncord"; it's hard to believe we can extract every knowledge from a person that way.

The movie deals with many ethical dilemmas, etc, that seemed to mostly have been avoided except for example for the interesting bit where Drucker speaks with a politician about cloning his kid to cure his brain cancer (one of the scenes that may have survived from a theoretical earlier non-Schwarzenegger version of the script).
