Liked it....


....but not as much as the Sam Peckinpah film "Cross of Iron" which also depicted war on the eastern front- even more brutally.

There haven't been many films set in the eastern front, I suppose it is because a lot of westerners find it hard to care when Nazis were fighting communists- even if it was the Red Army who ultimately defeated Hitler.

That reminds me...I need to rent "Cross of Iron." I was able to watch it half-way through on television years ago, but was interrupted. Thanks.

By "westerners" you sure mean Americans. Yeah, that would be boring for you. Americans want to see themselves being the hero, not those stupid Russians! Of course America saved the world! Yeah, we all know that.

Personally, I'd appreciate a film that depicts even ze Germans as humans. Yes, you heard me right! Humans! There is NO way such a film would come out of Hollywood - for obvious reasons. It would obviously be "racist".

But maybe someone else is brave enough to do it.
