Who really wrote the storyline for Enemy at the Gates

I have just finished reading a book by David L Robbins, "War of the Rats", published in the year 2000.

The similarity between the book and the movie is just so close that either David L Robbins had access the the screenplay writers or vice versa.

Can anybody throw any light on this issue?

As soon as I saw the trailer for this film (at the theater) I immediately assumed it was based on "War of the Rats" which I had read not long before. I was very surprised to find that the credits listed only William Craig's "Enemy at the Gates", which has a couple of pages about Zaitsev and his duel, and a book titled "Vendetta", which I had never heard of.

I heard a rumor about a lawsuit by Robbins, but I can't find anything concrete. It certainly seems like the screenplay is based on his book, right down to the love story.
