How does "American Sniper" compare?

I liked "Enemy at the Gates" a lot. Is American Sniper as good?

reply

How could it be as good? Enemy at the Gate portrays the desperation of real people in a real war, while American Sniper portrays the murderous racism of a kill-crazy American soldier in an arbitrary, falsified war. Apples and turds.

Clint Eastwood's movie doesn't promote the Iraq war as a good thing. It only suggests for Chris Kyle it was justified after the US embassy killings and 9/11. Blame the politicians responsible for a badly executed "war on terror", not the soldier for doing his job. American Sniper is really an excellent film.

Clearly you've never risked death, injury or even hurt feelings while jerking off in your dark room. You're a classic case of a permanent bystander who defames real people instead of having a life.

We have the words of an idiot who probably hasn't seen the movie. If he did, it is quite obvious that he didn't understand it.

Wow are you a coward. Racist? 

No.

I do not plan on watching American Sniper. No sniper movie can ever be made to hold a candle to this great movie. This is a great movie and should be re-released or at-least hope to see it being showen on Tv again for the ones that never seen it before.

There is a similar storyline in American Sniper. Just made me want to watch EATG, which I'm doing as we speak.

My posts were aimed at Bastasch, not you. (I'm technologically impaired)

I have to say I found a couple things both Vassili and Chris Kyle have in common: outstanding shooting skills and a cause they fight for with their lives.
I disagree with USA's war policies (It's *beep* up, yes) but Yihad is real. Al Qaeda is real. A guy like Kyle sees the 9/11 attack on TV and believes that going to war is a way to serve and protect his country. So he goes for glory and for the cause he relates to. But then being a hero is not as cool as he thought. To me, the movie is about the character and how war changes him. If after this movie people thing all muslims must die, It's because they're ignorants.
By the way, it made me want to see a movie based on Mustafa ( American sniper's bad guy) cause after all, he fighting for something he believes in. So it would be cool to see it from his point of view.
Vassili just wants to defend his country, be a regular militar and fight the enemy. This movie is more about how he becomes part of another field of war: propaganda. So It's really cool because It's using one of the nazi's greatest weapons. Vassili becomes a hero because that's what they need him to be. The conflicts come around him not feeling like a real hero, being manipulated and chasis by the enemy.

So war is cruel, no matter how skilled or how much of a hero you are: it breaks you, makes you small out there and there's no guarantee you'll survive or have a normal life after it.

I favour EATG over American Sniper that being said I would recommend watching both films especially if you like films about snipers at their is hardly an abundance of them is their?

To make a great film you need three things - the script, the script and the script -Alfred Hitchcock

reply

AS is fine, and apparently realistic, but squarely propaganda. Take some of its message with a grain of salt.

What message is that? That war is hell and it changes you?

Why can't you wretched prey creatures understand that the Universe doesn't owe you anything!?

ASTRONOMICALLY better. EATG is a complete turkey. Started out well enough, then fell apart, and never recovered. Suffers from blatant and obvious conventional film-making problems that can't be forgiven with the strengths of the film (which are there, but too few). American Sniper was a far different movie, but also a much better one.
