The scene where Vasilli is pinned down behind the stove... König shoots the rope that Vasilli is attempting to retrieve his rifle with, then doesn't shoot the rifle as it's sitting there.

1. Shoot rifle to pieces
2. Walk down and kill Vasilli

Game over.

I realize it's a movie, but they needed to come up with something else there.

He didn't know if Zaitsev had backup pistol or if more are hiding behind the pipes or about to come out of pipes as his gf did

Agreed. I understand why he wouldn't go down to shoot Zaitsev because he might have a backup weapon or there might be some other shooter. But he should've at least shot the rifle.
