Will i be able to follow Dragon Ball Super?

I've seen the original DB and DBZ, and only bits and pieces of GT. I've never seen any of the movies so what i want to ask is if i need to watch them first? Thanks!

reply

You just need to follow three movies:

Dragon Ball - Yo! Son Goku and his Friends Return!

Dragon Ball - Battle of Gods

Dragon Ball - Resurrection of Freiza

I think these three are accepted as solid DBZ history; the rest you can just watch and enjoy. Hope this helps.

It's just called Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F or "RF" for short.

Though to be technical, then it's Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection of F as per the official English-Japanese title.

A shame they didn't include Freeza's name in the title but on the plus side it doesn't show the stupid dubname "Frieza".

reply

And what is wrong with the spelling of "Frieza"? I happen to like it. It may not be the original spelling but it still works.

reply

"Frieza" when pronounced word-by-word sounds wrong. Freeza is the proper way, though.

Just listen to how Trunks says it at 1m34s @ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XAzDHco1w8

But if you're used to that spelling that's okay but not correct.

reply

Resurrection F sounds much better than Resurrection Frieza. I'm glad they didn't call it that.

reply

It could've too been just "The Resurrection" to not spoil what the F means, but FUNimation's now more than ever sticking to more accurate translations/dubs and titles.

The Japanese-English official title is Resurrection of F but I've gotten used to liking Resurrection F more. It's cleaner and a bit shorter.

reply

Well isn't that interesting. I never took "Frieza" as "FREIZA". I took the pronunciation as though it was spelled "FREEZA" since you know the whole "i" before "e" thing creates a long "e" sound. For the name to be pronounced as it is in that abridged show, the "i" and the "e" would have to be swapped.

reply

Just Battle of Gods will get you up to speed on this.

reply

Dragon Ball Super starts off after the Majin Boo arc where Dragon Ball Z took place. And you also get to see Beerus again from Battle of Gods.

Filler content such as Dragon Ball GT (yes I know a lot of you hate it but whatever, I like it), Super Saiyan 4s, Coola and etc won't be referred in this. Coola didn't even appear in Resurrection F, so that's that.

reply

No if you've seen DBZ then you need not watch anything else before watching Super.
