If you disliked GT could you honestly say why?

I've read a lot of reasons why it has a lot of hate but at the same time it doesn't make much sense to me since I don't see in any way as a con (like Goku being a kid is a con somehow).

I'm a GT fan so I'll list my pros and cons.

Pros

+ Awesome opening and ending songs.
+ Basically a remake of Dragon Ball while travelling in space.
+ Original soundtrack by Mr. Tokunaga.
+ It was good to see the Pilaf Gang one last time in their original sizes.
+ Super Saiyan 4 Son Goku and Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta look freaking stylish (not a Vegeta fan).
+ Very comedic (it was subtle so some might've not noticed it).
+ Not a too serious series like Z was and nor it was too focused on battles (till later).
+ Animation is pretty good while flawed.
+ Loved the ending (it gave a closure to the series whereas Z didn't and I like wrap ups).

Cons

- GT only recycled a previous show and remade it in a different form.
- The animation at times took some deep hits (specifically that time with Cell and Freeza in Hell).
- BGMs during the last arc would repeat way too often despite being catchy tunes.
- Due to GT being cancelled we never got to see some awesome battles (Su Shen Long Vs. Goku)
- I would have preferred Goten instead of Pan for the journey and Trunks in his normal get-up (Goku would remain as a kid).

So yeah, I'm not the kind of fan to overlook details and disregard something because it's not canon or whatever.

The first con you mentioned is a big one for me. The entire Bebi saga in particular was a big mixed bag of sh!t that had been done before. Bebi's original presentation and Dr. Myuu resembled Cell and Dr. Gero, Bebi's entire concept had been done before in Plan To Eradicate The Saiyans, the whole "friends turning evil" thing had been done before in the deplorable Garlic Jr. arc and executed just as well (which is to say, not at all), bringing back the importance of Goku's tail when it had been gone for an entire series was just stupid on its own (and I've never really cared for SSJ4), and to top it all off, Bebi's death was a small retread to Cooler's defeat in DBZ Movie 5.

Super 17's bland as hell concept was basically a retread to Movie 7 and the Cell arc, combining cyborgs/androids to create a super one. And the whole former evil villains escaping hell is taken directly from Movie 12, and doesn't really serve a point given how strong the characters are at this point, other than just making Gohan look bad as they've done for a long time now. There's a reason Movie 12 treated the whole "crisis" of Hell's bad guys escaping as a big joke for the most part.

The Evil Dragons arc was actually different and its concept was brilliant... too bad the execution was a load of sh!t.

The ending is definitely better than Z's non-ending, even if it feels like an attempt to pretend they're saying something when literally saying nothing. "Goku... are you...?" Is he what? Who knows? They never told us. We can only assume he ascended to some higher plane of consciousness.

Sleepwalk through eternity.

Fair enough.

I agree that the Evil Dragons arc was pretty good too but because GT was cancelled it never really reached its full potential.

I liked SS4 and the Super 17 saga.

I disliked the animation which was a step back. DBZ ended so colorful and GT was dull.

I watched DBZ before DB so I wasn't a fan of the children aspect.

Baby was just a different version of Buu.

I hate hate Pan, she took up too much time in my opinion. Nothing special about her at all.

My only beef on the show is that it was so damn short. 64 episodes really? It needed like 100 more episodes to fully give it justice.

I think the ending to Dragonball Z was quite good. We got a nice time jump and saw that everything was going to be okay. I don't see how anyone couldn't find it to be a good closure.

The Japanese audience didn't really like GT so Toei/Shueisha ended up cancelling the series which explains why there's so much left unexplained and rushed.

In these cases, they should just stretch it out just a bit more if there's storylines that need to be fleshed out. To just up and end a show like that is just very stupid.

reply

Yeah I could definitely give a bunch of reasons why I didnt like it. I don't just dislike it because everyone else does, it really was kinda poor.

The concept of the " grand tour" and travelling through space was nice. The shadow dragons arc was really cool. Baby and the whole tuffles storyline bored me.

Truth be told, I only dislike the first third or so of GT. There are some problems I have with the series at large but I do not think it's as bad as people say. Once the series gets to Baby and starts to bring back the feel of Z, it gets better.

The attempt to combine the humor and adventure of DB with the high energy action of DBZ just didn't work. And if Pan is as strong as she is, why isn't she a Super Saiyan?

I actually LOVED the Super 17 Saga, finding it to be concise, to the point, and packed with action.

One of the possibilities that why Pan never went Super Saiyan was simple. She's a female and female Saiyans are yet to be seen in a Super Saiyan form.

Although, in Xenoverse I think you can be a female Super Saiyan but that's a game not an anime series.
