Are there multiple timelines due to Trunks travelling back in time?

So, correct me if I'm wrong, but are there multiple timelines due to the influence of Trunks? This isn't a fan theory, this is how I interpreted the show based on watching it. Basically, I thought there was one timeline up to Season 3 of DB-Z and then the most of the movies happen, explaining some of the plot holes some who may not understand that get confused with, then Trunks goes back before some of these movies happen in Season 4 and the show continues from there on a separate timeline where the events of GT didn't happen and stuff.

Basically, I'm asking if I'm misinterpreting it and if I am, what is the actual timeline of the DB franchise
